Burnley woman saves life of mum and daughter in house blaze

A BURNLEY firefighter has been commended for saving the lives of a mother and daughter after a fire broke out at their home.

At 9-15 p.m. on March 23rd last year crew manager Rosie Moorhouse answered a 999 call from a woman living at an address in Blackpool.

The fire raged in the living room and the woman and daughter were trapped upstairs, but Rosie’s advice to stay put, shutting the door of the room and keeping smoke out by stuffing bedding at the foot of the door, together with her reassurance that firefighters were on their way ensured the pair were rescued unharmed.

She was presented with a commendation by Lancashire Fire and Rescue’s chief fire officer Mr Peter Holland at a special ceremony at headquarters in Preston.

Also presented with the honour was firefighter Janet Kitchen, from Leyland, who saved a mum and daughter in a similar situation.

Both women are based at fire service headquarters.
