Burnley woman accused of £30,000 benefit fraud

A 48-year-old Burnley woman has appeared before the town’s magistrates, accused of a £30,000 benefits fraud stretching back over almost five years.

Deborah Louise Fogg, of Coal Clough Lane, Burnley, faces four charges of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances.

It is alleged she was maintaining a common household with her husband, David Fogg, while claiming as a single person, in Burnley.

One allegation concerns income support from the Department for Work and Pensions, between July 6th, 2009 and February 21st, 2014.

A second count is regarding council tax benefit from Burnley Council, between July 13th, 2009 and March 31st, 2013.

A third accusation involves housing benefit from Burnley Council between July 13th, 2009 and May 22nd, 2014 and the fourth charge concerns employment support allowance from the DWP, between February 22nd, 2014 and May 22nd, 2014.

The defendant did not indicate pleas to the charges.

The magistrates decided that her case should be heard at Burnley Crown Court and she was remanded to face a hearing there on June 15th.
