Burnley UCFB launches bid for London Olympic Stadium

BURNLEY’S UCFB College of Football Business is preparing a sensational bid to take over the Olympic Stadium in London.

The UCFB, based at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor, has submitted the bid for the flagship stadium which will be the centre piece of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The pioneering centre, which offers degrees in football business affiliated to Bucks New University, hopes to take on the 80,000-seater stadium following the Olympics.

It is one of four bids which will be assessed by the London Legacy Development Corporation before negotiations begin.

Football clubs West Ham and Leyton Orient have also submitted bids along with a plan to turn the venue into part of a Formula 1 racing track.

An original deal for West Ham to lease the £486m stadium was scrapped last year amid legal wrangling.

An official announcement on the UCFB bid is expected later today.

A decision on the future of the stadium, which will be reduced to 60,000 capacity after the games, will be made by October with new tenants moving in by 2014.
