Burnley student scores 100% in maths GCSE

The modest 16-year-old, who left Blessed Trinity RC College earlier this year, was delighted to receive eight A* grades and one A grade but said even she was surprised to find out she had got all the questions on the maths higher paper – designed to test the brightest of pupils – right.

“Maths is all right but it’s not my favourite subject,” said Sarah, who lives in Glen View Road with her parents, Ann (50), a cleaner, and IT technician Peter (51).

“Sometimes I find it easy but it can be hard work. I didn’t revise any more for maths, just the same as I did for the other subjects.”

It is just another academic accolade for the former Christ the King RC School pupil, who gained an A in GCSE English language last summer after taking the exam a year early, and this year was awarded a grade B in AS-level government and politics.

She earned GCSE A* grades in English literature, maths, double award science, religious education, sociology, history and French and gained an A grade in music.

On Wednesday she started the new term at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form in Barden Lane and is looking forward to a bright future. She will study A-levels in maths, biology, chemistry and French as well as completing the second year of her A-level government and politics course which she started at Blessed Trinity.

Speaking on Tuesday she said: “I’m looking forward to sixth form. I’m excited but also a bit nervous, a bit of both. I think it’s going to be hard work.”
