The event is part of a wider national fund-raising campaign launched by television doctor Dawn Harper and will run at Xercise4Less in Kingsway.

Dr Dawn, who features on Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies, is encouraging people to get fit and give hope to the thousands of families whose lives are devastated by a brain tumour diagnosis, with a 12 hour spinathon this Saturday from 8am to 8pm.

Dr Dawn is poised to pedal off and launch the first national On Yer Bike campaign for the charity Brain Tumour Research. And she is hoping that thousands of people will join her to raise thousands of pounds for vital research.

Xercise4Less Burnley will see a team of six set off to pedal static bikes non-stop for 12 hours. Each team is hoping to raise a minimum of £2,740, enough to fund a day of research at one of the four Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence.

Dr Dawn, who works in general practice in Gloucestershire as well as appearing on Embarrassing Bodies, is a keen cyclist whose passion began as a prescription to help her recover from a hit and run accident which left her with a shattered knee.

The mum-of-three, who is an ambassador for the charity, said: “Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!”

Tim Weir, General Manager at Xercise4Less Burnley, said: "The team and I are delighted to be part of such an amazing charity, and it brings us great pleasure to know that we can continue to help inspire change in lives in every way possible. Saturday should be a great day for all involved and we hope that our valued members will help us raise as much money as possible."
