Burnley sex attack - police appeal for witnesses

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 37-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Burnley.

Around 9-40 p.m. last Saturday, the woman was pulled from an alleyway in Waterbarn Street and into the alleyway of Ada Street and Murray Street.

She was pushed to the floor by a man who pinned her down and sexually assaulted her before making off from the scene.

The man is described as Asian, of slim build, tall, and aged 25 to 40 with dark, spiky hair and was wearing dark clothes and a baseball cap with the peak turned up.

Det. Sgt Christopher Scott said: “This was a particularly nasty and terrifying incident for the victim who has been left incredibly shaken by what has happened.

“I would appeal to anybody that may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to contact police. I would also like to speak with anyone who has any information at all that may assist with this investigation.

“I would advise people in the area to always be mindful of their own personal safety, be aware of their surroundings and avoid being alone in isolated areas.”
