United Utilities engineers are currently working in Wellfield Drive, Burnley, to start repairs on a burst water pipe which has cut the supply to homes in the area. In the meantime, St Mary Magdalene’s RC Primary School has had to close for the day.

“We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can,” said a spokesman.

The leak was spotted at 4am.
