Nominations are now open for the Burnley Community Sports Awards.

Organised by Burnley Leisure, the awards celebrate clubs who create inclusive environments, volunteers who have had a positive impact on increasing participation and young sports people who are exceeding expectations in their field.

Awards are spread across 10 different categories with some new ones added this year.

Nominations can be submitted for adult volunteer of the year, coach of the year, community club of the year, lifetime achievement, primary and secondary schools of the year, rising star, and young volunteer of the year.

The new categories include community project, active workplace and contribution to women’s participation.

People are encouraged to make nominations by visiting the Burnley Leisure website www.burnleyleisure.co.uk/sportsawards.

Paul Foster, head of leisure development at Burnley Leisure, said: “There’s no doubt that there is a wealth of sporting talent in Burnley.

“This prestigious awards ceremony will highlight the invaluable work carried out by the many hundreds of volunteers and professionals involved in sport locally. So if you know someone who is a worthy winner then why not visit our website and nominate them?”

All shortlisted nominees will be invited to a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by Olympian champion Sally Gunnell OBE at Burnley Mechanics Theatre on July 6th.

Local businesses and organisations can also get involved in celebrating sport in Burnley by sponsoring this event.
