Kenank’s, in Barracks Road, was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday morning eight months after £1,700 worth of decking was stolen from outside the restaurant.

On this occasion burglars smashed their way through the front door using a large rock before making off with a laptop, iPad, takings from the safe and the CCTV digital video recorder.

Owner David Hankinson, who opened the restaurant in October 2014, said the burglary had come as a major blow but he was not going to let it bring the business down.

“It’s extremely disheartening. You throw everything you have into something and then this happens.

“We didn’t take a day off over Christmas because of how busy it was. Then you come to January, which is a terrible month for restaurants. Nobody has any money, nobody wants to go out. We’ve even put a 25% offer on all food during the first two months of the year and then somebody comes along, throws a brick through your window and tries to take everything. We’re open as usual though. It’s not going to stop us.

“The support we have had has been phenomenal. We’ve posted something on Facebook and it has been seen by around 70,000 people. So many people have been getting in touch . We’ve been contacted by security experts and electricians and we’re looking at getting manahed CCTV which is monitored off-site 24/7. We’re trying to turn a negative into a positive.”
