Burnley nurse accused of child and animal porn offences

A Burnley nurse charged with child porn offences has been suspended by a medical watchdog.

David Hartley Haigh (52) was charged with four offences by Lancashire Police and appeared before Burnley Magistrates’ Court.

Locum nurse Haigh, of Brunshaw Road, faces three counts of making indecent photographs of children between August and October 2012.

He is also accused of possession of extreme animal pornography during the same period.

Haigh’s case will be heard at Burnley Crown Court on March 31st.

He was granted conditional bail and was ordered not to have any unsupervised contact with children under 16 years.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council panel suspended Haigh’s registration for a 12-month period during a hearing at the Old Bailey in London.

Haigh, who was not present at the hearing, was given the interim suspension order pending the outcome of the hearing.

The NMC had received a referral from Pulse Staffing Ltd on November 7th, 2012, following Haigh’s arrest.
