Burnley Netto store to become UGO in major revamp

BURNLEY’s Netto store is set to undergo a major transformation.

The discount grocery chain was bought by Asda last year, and the Burnley store, located in Queen’s Lancashire Way, is one of 20 which has since been acquired by the Haldane Retail Group.

The Netto brand will now be changed to UGO (pronounced You Go), and will offer discount retailing, but with more focus on the grocery range along with health and beauty.

Entrepreneur and sole shareholder of The Haldane Retail Group Arthur Harris said: “UGO will be a flexible, friendly and approachable company with old-fashioned ideas and ethics reconstructed where necessary to encompass a modern trading format.

“There is an opportunity in the mid-size discount supermarket sector to do something special.

“And I think UGO, with its established store teams, is the brand to do it.”

Netto opened in Burnley in 2005 on a site occupied by a private parking space, a vacant yard and a retail unit.

The 20 new UGO stores, currently still trading as Netto, also include ones in Blackburn and Bury.
