BURNLEY MP Mr Gordon Birtwistle has said he will vote against plans for gay marriage.

The Commons vote on the Marriage Bill will take place later today and Mr Birtwistle, a Liberal Democrat MP, said he is not in favour of the proposals.

“I don’t agree with the proposals at all,” he said.

“I think marriage is a sacred thing between a man and a woman. It’s the way I’ve been brought up. I just don’t think the Government should get involved with things like this.”
