Burnley to host first literary festival

The week-long Burnley Literary Festival will take place at a number of town centre venues during the October half-term break.

The family-focused festival will feature an exciting programme of workshops, talks, readings, performances, masterclasses and open-mic sessions.

Best-selling authors such as crime writer Neil White will be talking about their work.

Catherine Price, Burnley and Padiham Town Centre Manager said: “I’m delighted to be co-ordinating the organisation of Burnley’s first ever literary festival which will run for a whole week between the October 29th and November 7th.

Burnley Council is working closely with the Library, Burnley Youth Theatre, Burnley College and with partners across the town centre to organise the festival which will bring literature to life.

“There will be events and activities for all ages taking place in different venues around the town centre, with street performers, book characters, drama and film showings.

“Friday will be dedicated to Roald Dahl with a special Charlie and the Chocolate Factory treat at the Burnley Mechanics, and many more surprises. We are really excited about the event and hope it will attract many new visitors to the town centre, as well as encouraging more people, young and old, to enjoy reading for pleasure and to be inspired by the stories they read.”
