Local historian Ken Spencer MBE celebrated his 90th Birthday at Burnley Central Library.
Library staff arranged a surprise birthday celebration in recognition of all the hard work and the many hours Ken has spent at the library helping with any number of local queries.
His wealth of experience has been an invaluable resource to both staff and the general public over the years and he still goes to the reference library every day to help out.
In 2014, Ken was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” by Lancashire County Council, in recognition for clocking up more than four decades helping out at Burnley Central Library.
He was joined by his many friends, including patrons from the local Historical Society, the Weaver’s Triangle, where he volunteers at the visitor centre, St Peter’s church where he regularly attends the concert services, and library staff past and present.
He said he was overwhelmed by the gesture.
