Former professional footballer and well known Burnley lad Dean Overson made his exit from the smash hit reality show Love Island last night.

Dean is on his way back to England after losing his place on the show that follows the fortunes of a group of young people who hope to find love in a luxury Majorcan villa.

The ITV2 show, which has the nation gripped, saw Dean and five other boys arrive in the villa with the task of winning over the six girls already in the show.

While four of them were chosen to win a place in the main villa, Dean and another contestant were left on the sideline and had to leave the show last night.

But it was a close call for Dean as one of the contestants, Megan Barton Hanson, told others she liked Dean, describing him as "cute and lovely."

Dean (25) a former model who now works as a car sales executive, was philosophical about his disappointment telling other contestants: "It is what it is, I am a decent person and I am sure I will find someone who is right for me."

Dean played with the youth team at Burnley before signing for Bradford and later Barrow.

The show has divided opinion in the UK with viewers either loving or hating it.

The winning couple, who will be voted by viewers, win a £50,000 prize pot to share.
