Burnley ‘gun-point’ robbery - have you seen this man?

POLICE in Burnley have released an EvoFit of a man they are keen to speak with after a 19-year-old local man was robbed at “gun point” in the town last month.

The robbery took place around 8-15 p.m. on Saturday, January 8th, when the victim was walking along Eastern Avenue from Widowhill Road.

He was approached by three Asian men, one of whom blocked his path while another demanded his mobile phone.

When the victim denied he had a phone the man produced what is described by the victim as a handgun which he pointed at him while demanding his mobile phone.

The victim then handed over his HTC Wildfire mobile phone and all three men made off from the scene.

DC Ian McLean from Burnley CID said: “This is an extremely serious offence which involved the use of a real or imitation firearm and I would urge people to take a close look at the Evofit and if anyone thinks they recognise this man, not to approach him but to contact police.

“I would also like to reassure people offences of this nature involving any form of firearm are very rare and there have been no other reports of any similar incidents.”

The Evofit is of the man who, it is thought, was in possession of the weapon which is described as being black in colour, 9in. long with a 6in. handle and a barrel. Police believe the weapon is more likely to be an imitation firearm.

The man is described as being Asian, 5ft. 6in., 17-18 years old, slim build with black gelled hair. He was wearing a black hooded top which had red stripes on the arms. He was also wearing dark coloured jeans.

Any information regarding the identity of this man should contact Burnley CID on 01282472240 or Crimestopppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
