Burnley flying the flag for National Armed Forces Week

Burnley has been flying the flag for National Armed Forces Week with events to honour the country's service men and women, past and present.

Civic guests joined representatives from the Royal British Legion, the Sea Cadets, Salute and VAUK, and the deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire Kam Kothia at Burnley Town Hall to mark the raising of the Armed Forces flag above the building. That was followed by a short reception event in the town hall.

The week will culminate locally, in style, at the Padiham on Parade weekend-long celebration.

Coun. Lian Pate, Burnley Council’s “Armed Forces champion”, said: “We should remember the contribution our armed forces make throughout the year but this week is especially important.

“We’re proud to fly the flag for our service men and women and I’m sure the Padiham on Parade weekend will be a great success and a fitting way to end the week in style.”

The Padiham on Parade event will take over the whole town from Friday through to Sunday.
