A FIREBUG is being hunted by police after a van was torched in a Burnley street last night.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Mansergh Street at around midnight after reports that the LGV Pilot van was on fire

It is thought the van was rolled down the street and onto a pavement before being torched.

Neighbours alerted the owner before raising the alarm and when fire crews arrived the cab and a garden fence were well ablaze

The fire was brought under control but it is being treated as suspicious and police have launched an investigation.

Earlier on in the evening fire crews were called to a detached property in Shore Avenue after reports of a kitchen fire.

A woman had left the oven unattended while she went upstairs to check on her child but smoke began to fill the house.

There were no smoke alarms fitted in the house but the woman’s husband called 999.

Firefighters arrived and stopped the oven fire spreading through the kitchen.
