BURNLEY fire crews were called to Belford Street in Stoneyholme last night after a pile of wooden crates were set alight in a back yard.

The incident happened at 10-15 p.m. and firefighters spent between 15 and 20 minutes tackling the blaze behind a derelict house.

But crew manager Naveed Sharif said there had been a drop in the number of incidents in the area since a community initiative was launched earlier this year.

“It’s almost self policed by the community,” he said.
