FIREFIGHTERS from Burnley fire station responded to four nuisance calls including a hoax overnight.

At 6-20 p.m. they were called to a rubbish fire at the rear of Daneshouse Road Community Centre in Daneshouse Road. That was followed two hours later by a deliberate rubbish fire on land off Glen View Road and at 12-30 a.m. they returned to Daneshouse Road to put out a second fire.

At 3-05 a.m. today a hoax caller told the operator a house in Hollingreave Road was ablaze but when crews arrived they found the property empty.

The caller also contacted the North West Ambulance Service to say somebody had cut themselves at the same address.

Police believe the two incidents are linked and are studying cctv in a bid to trace the culprit. It is thought the calls were made from a telephone box in the town centre.
