Burnley dad put super-glue in ignition of love rival’s scooter

AN unemployed father of two was accused of assaulting a love rival and putting superglue in the ignition of her motor scooter, Burnley magistrates heard.

Jonathon Lowry (27), of Ennismore Street, Burnley, was upset his partner of four years had started a relationship with his long standing friend, Michelle Chappell.

He was said to have grabbed the victim’s neck and broken her necklace and to have been insulting and abusive to her during a row which erupted in a park.

Krystal Savoy (defending) said Lowry had been friends with Miss Chappell and her partner helping out with DIY jobs around their home. Miss Savoy said he had confronted Miss Chappell and believed she denied the relationship was still going on as she did not want her partner to find out.

Miss Savoy said Lowry had pointed out a love bite on Miss Chappell’s neck and when she moved her necklace had caught, broken and fallen off. The solicitor said: “He had no intention to make any contact with Miss Chappell whatsoever and says he was not grabbing for her neck. He’s very upset and deeply regrets his actions. He doesn’t accept he has made any threats.

“His relationship has very recently ended. They have maintained a friendly relationship and she is in court to provide her support.”

Enza Geldard (prosecuting) said the victim grew concerned about Lowry’s behaviour and threats during the row and tried to call the police but Lowry ran at her, knocked her phone to the floor and tried to stamp on it as it rang. She grabbed it and he walked off, still shouting. Mrs Geldard said when Miss Chappell got back to her scooter, she realised it had been damaged and was unable to get it started and had to call the RAC.

Lowry admitted damage and assault by beating on April 30th and was given a 12 month conditional discharge.
