A BURNLEY family celebrated their royal connection when the Queen paid a visit to the town.

Rosalie Riley (63) and her granddaughter Sophie (12) are the proud owners of a Welsh Corgi – which is Her Majesty’s favourite breed of dog.

Dog lover Rosalie, of Briercliffe Road, believes three-year-old Maxwell could be one of the only Corgis in Burnley.

She was delighted with the visit of the world’s most famous Corgi owner, and even dressed Maxwell up in flags and bunting for the occasion.

Rosalie said: “We just love Corgis. They are gorgeous. They are just like little teddy bears.

“Corgis have a royal connection because they are the Queen’s favourite dog.

“Years ago they used to be a very popular dog, but you don’t see that many about any more.

“I have never seen another Corgi in Burnley.

“It is nice to have a connection with the Queen.”

Rosalie got the chance to see the Queen on the Royal visit, but Maxwell had to stay at home because of the noisy crowds in Burnley town centre.
