Burnley Community Sports Awards: Nominations announced

The nominees for this year’s Burnley Community Sports Awards have been revealed.

The annual prize presentation will take place at Burnley Mechanics Theatre on Thursday, July 19th, with Olympic gold medallist sprinter Jason Gardener as guest speaker.

The awards were established to recognise and celebrate the contributions and achievements of local people and communities to sport, physical activity, and community development.

They pay tribute to those who show dedication at a range of levels or those who work tirelessly to support individuals or community clubs, for the love of the sport and their community. The awards are being organised by Burnley Leisure.

All the shortlisted nominees will be invited to the evening along with some of their family and friends.

The nominees are as follows:

Community Club of the Year - Clayton-Le-Moors Harriers Junior Section; Burnley Athletic Club; Fulledge Colts Youth FC

Coach of the Year - Ian McKay; Noel Horton

Young Volunteer of the Year - Millie Tipping; Amber Day

Adult Volunteer of the Year - Jason Pier; Marion Wilkinson; Collette Tomlinson

Community Primary School of the Year - Stoneyholme Primary School; Whittlefield Primary School; Padiham Green C of E Primary School

Community Secondary School of the Year - Blessed Trinity RC College; Sir John Thursby Community College

Young Achiever - Liberty Heap; Briony Holt; Alex Baker

Community Project Award - Couch to 5k; Parkrun

Contribution to Women’s Sport - Janet Roundell; Kevin Dand; Marion Wilkinson
