Burnley College A-level celebrations: photo slideshow

A Level students at Burnley College are celebrating another outstanding year of achievements with a 99.8% pass rate, a record number of A and A* grades and over three quarters achieving top grades.

Students also achieved more points per exam entry than most other schools and colleges in Lancashire – putting Burnley College at the top of the Lancashire league table with Runshaw College, Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School, Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Stonyhurst College.

Advanced Vocational students also celebrated a 100% pass rate and outstanding high grades, including 216 Distinction Stars and Distinctions.

Some of the highest A Level grades were achieved in science, English and maths subjects, including a 100% pass rate and 93.75% A-C grades in biology, a 100% pass rate and 88.89% A-C grades in physics and a 100% pass rate and 88.1% A–C grades in maths. French students celebrated 100% A-C grades and there were also outstanding high grades and 100% pass rates in fine art, English language and literature and law as well as many more.

Among the college’s highest-performing students was Jasmine Ginty, who achieved top A* and A grades in English language, law and psychology. The former Alder Grange Community Technology School student will now study law at the University of York.

Former Shuttleworth College student Gemma Fisk also secured top A* and A grades in government and politics, history and psychology. She will now study social and political science at the University of York.

Former St Christopher’s CE High school student Damon Bannister achieved top A grades in information communication technology, film studies and media studies. He will now study film production for the music industry at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Burnley College Sixth Form Centre Principal, Hugh Bramwell, said: “We are passionate about the success of all of our students and are delighted so many of them secured their futures with us. Overall, this is our best ever year for all of our Advanced Level results and high grade performances.

“Our students’ dedication and commitment to their education has led to them being among the highest achievers in Lancashire. The outstanding results we are celebrating today are a credit to the hard work and determination of our students, the support of their parents and a tribute to our highly-qualified teaching and support staff.

“The Government recently announced our students achieve more points per exam entry than at all other schools and colleges in Pennine Lancashire and this has been shown once again today.

“A record number of our students have now secured places at some of the country’s top universities and we wish all our students every success in their future university studies and employment plans.”
