A Burnley bodybuilder beat off competitors from around the globe to finish third in the IBFA World Bodybuilding Championships.

Colin Tyson travelled to the Italian capital of Rome where he claimed third place in a stellar line up of 12 competitors, beating the reigning British and Irish Champions to claim a spot on the podium.

This result comes on top of his fourth place finish in the Mr Universe and third in the Mr Europe IBFA Bodybuilding Championships in early summer.

Colin said: “I would like to thank Sam and Ben Coupe, Dave Burnett, Lifestyle Fitness, The Muscle Factory and last but by no means least, my training partner and wife Helen, who has had to endure 10 months of me being on a strict diet of fish and rice.”

Another Burnley athlete, and friend of Colin’s, Tariq Khan finished in seventh place in the Athletic class, an outstanding result given it was only his fourth time on stage.

Colin only decided to compete again in the summer, after an 18-year break from the sport, following a chance meeting with late Fitness Factory owner Michael Coupe.

It became Colin and Michael’s goal to get Colin back to the top of his game and within 18 months he won the Mr UK title.

Sadly Michael died last year and, with the Fitness Factory closing its doors, Colin had to decide whether or not to continue.

Colin has now retired from competitive body building but will concentrate his efforts on training aspiring athletes.
