Burnley Blues Festival ‘bigger and better’ in 2012

The iconic festival, which attracts fans and musicians from both sides of the Atlantic, was switched to one day in 2009 due to fears over cost.

But this week council chiefs look set to rubber-stamp the event’s revival. It will also move from Easter weekend to the May Day Bank Holiday.

A meeting between festival organisers, representatives from fringe venues and council bosses is due to be held at the town hall while Burnley Mechanics is already advertising the three-day spectacular on its website, though it said the line-up is yet to be announced.

Coun. Charlie Briggs, leader of Burnley Council, said the returning of the festival to three days would give Burnley people and the town’s economy a massive boost.

“It’s really good news. It just shows that we are thinking about the people of Burnley and it will give a boost to the economy.

“It gets the pubs and clubs involved and with everything else that’s happened over the last few months, it’s all good for Burnley.

“I would like to see the festival a bit bigger than that but we’ll take it one step at a time.”
