The five-piece re-released the track which has been seized upon by supporters of the Iron Lady who died of a stroke aged 87.

A campaign has been launched to make the track the number one tribute to Baroness Thatcher. The band say the Archbishop of Canterbury and other famous figures have thrown their weight behind the move to see the song top the charts ahead of the controversial “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” from the Wizard of Oz.

The satirical song features the lyrics “Oh Margaret Thatcher is so sexy, she’s the girl for you and me. I go red when she’s on the telly, ‘cos I think she fancies me” and the band believe it is the “ultimate tribute” to the former Tory figurehead.

The song also featured in the big budget biopic film “The Iron lady” which starred Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher.
