Burnley awash with pink as Midnight Memories Walk marks hospice's 30th anniversary
Burnley town centre was awash with a sea of pink t-shirts as Pendleside Hospice embarked on their Midnight Memories Walk to celebrate the hospice's 30th anniversary.
The six–mile walk returned with a bright 80s theme, taking walkers back to 1988 when an appeal was launched for Hospice Care for Burnley and Pendle, as the hospice was formerly known.
The event was headed by the four-piece party band Sweet Sensation who belted out 80s soul, funk and disco music as part of the warm up from 8-30pm.
Participants got into the spirit by putting on neon’s, tutus or leg warmers to promote the birthday celebrations.
Over the years, thousands of supporters have taken part in the colourful event and raised a significant amount of money to support the work of the hospice caring for people with life limiting illnesses their families and carers.
The walk began at Burnley Football Club and was attended by almost 400 people of all ages, both male and female. From Turf Moor, fundraisers then walked past Thompson Park towards Brierfield stopping by Pendleside Hospice at the half-way point.
This gave people the chance to take time out and remember lost loved ones. Memorial ribbons were tied to trees and tealights lit throughout the grounds, providing a moving and poignant backdrop.
Participants then continued on Colne Road back towards Burnley Football Club, for a well-deserved bacon butty at around 3am.
Sammi Graham, head of events and fundraising officer, at Pendleside said: “We were thrilled by the support for the Midnight Memories walk this year. It was truly wonderful to see so many local faces, of all ages, involved.
“The party atmosphere was superb, and we are truly thankful to all of our supporters for their efforts towards funding the future of Pendleside Hospice in our 30th year, helping to ensure that the hospice is here for all those who will need our support in the years to come.
“We are looking forward to seeing just how much has been raised over the coming weeks.”
