Brierfield men arrested over claims of sex exploitation of girls (14)

FOUR men from Brierfield have been charged by police in connection with the sexual exploitation of two 14-year-old girls.

Shiraz Afzal (25), of Mansfield Crescent, Omar Mazafer (21), of Halifax Road, and Mohammed Suleman Farooq (22), of Berry Street, are all accused of conspiracy to rape a child.

All three men have been remanded in custody. A fourth man, Waqas Khalid, (18) of Halifax Road, is charged with witness intimidation. He was due to appear at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday

The arrests came after detectives from the Freedom Team, which tackles child sexual exploitation, carried out a series of pre-planned warrants across Brierfield on Tuesday and Wednesday.
