His guilty pleas came part way through a trial at Manchester Crown Court. Amjad had initially denied the charges. He was acquitted of other charges of rape and aid, abet, counsel or procure rape, encouraging or assisting an offence and witness intimidation.

Five other men - Haroon Mahmood (22), of John Street, Brierfield; Mohammed Suleman Farooq (23), of Berry Street, Brierfield; Omar Mazafern (22) of Halifax Road, Brierfield; Mohammed Zeeshan Amjad (25), of Halifax Road, Brierfield, and Shiraz Afzal (26) of Mansfield Crescent, Brierfield - were acquitted on direction of the judge of various sex offences against the same girl.

Det. Chief Insp. Sion Hall, of Burnley Police, said: “Today’s sentence is the culmination of a long and complex investigation. We’ve worked extremely hard with the young victim over a long period of time and she has shown a tremendous amount of courage and bravery throughout the case.

“I hope this sentence acts as a warning that this type of predatory crime will not be tolerated. We will continue to target, warn and prosecute offenders to hit home the message that this type of behaviour is not just unacceptable, it is criminal.”

Amjad was also given a seven-year sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) which prohibits him from contacting any girl under the age of 16 or being in a vehicle with a girl under the age of 16 without express permission from the child’s parent.

He must sign the sex offenders’ register and will remain on it for an indefinite period.

His vehicle that was used to commit the child abduction has also been seized
