Brierfield drug dealer must pay back £17,500

A DRUG dealer, sentenced to eight months in prison for possession with intent to supply cannabis, has been ordered to pay back £17,500.

Abdus Wahid (29), formerly of Albert Street, Brierfield, pleaded guilty at Burnley Crown Court in April.

On Friday, Pennine Division’s financial investigation unit was successful in its application to have the proceeds from his crimes confiscated. The judge accepted he had benefited from his crime to the value of £17,500 and he was ordered to repay the full amount within six months or face a further nine months in prison.

Wahid was arrested on August 10th last year after police stopped his red Honda Civic in Arthur Street, Nelson.

He tried to run off and was seen to throw a carrier bag containing cannabis skunk, snap seal bags and cash, into a yard. He was arrested and the carrier bag was recovered by police.

DC Tony Morris said: “As this case shows, people will not profit from crime in Lancashire. The Proceeds of Crime Act is one of many tools we are using to come down hard on offenders.

“I hope this sends out a warning, if we find you with cash that you cannot account for, you will be targeted.”
