Brierfield and Reedley to enter North West in Bloom?

An ambitious scheme to transform dull areas of Brierfield and Reedley into blazes of colour are being put forward by a local councillor.

If they come to fruition, the two towns could be competing alongside the likes of other Pendle towns such as Nelson, Colne, Brierfield and Barnoldswick in the annual North West in Bloom competition next year.

Leading the campaign to brighten up the towns is Pendle councillor for Reedley and Brierfield town councillor Mohammad Hanif.

He said: “I am Brierfield and Reedley through and through.

“I have lived here all my life.

“I have been out and about in the towns over the last few months speaking to people about what they would like to see done by the council to improve the appearance of the towns.

“Some of the things they told us are obviously unaffordable but others, like tidying up small pieces of land and planting flowers, we can have a look at.

“By working in partnership with councils, volunteers can get things done to brighten the area and enter the North West in Bloom competition next summer.”

Two of the areas which Coun. Hanif said might benefit from a spruce-up are in Burnley Road, Brierfield, close to the traffic lights which are currently overgrown with bushes.

Coun. Hanif said he would highlight the matter at a meeting of Brierfield Town Council and was hoping for support from his fellow councillors.

Brierfield Town Council already does some work on floral displays in the town centre.

If his plans meet with approval, he will be looking for volunteers to form a group to take responsibility for the work.
