Breast cancer survivor raises over £1,500 for Burnley General

A woman who beat cancer has raised over £1,500 for new cancer treatment facilities at Burnley General Hospital as she seeks to help others overcome the disease.

Lynn Riley was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but after successful bouts of chemotherapy and surgery, is now cancer free.

Keen to do something to make an impact on cancer care in the local area, she has held a number of raffles at the Railway Club in Rosegrove, raising a grant total of £1,530 for the new chemotherapy and haematology unit at Burnley General Hospital.

"Members have been very generous with the donations," Lynn said. "I'd also like to thank Andrea Fisk and all the horse owners at Netherwood Farm, who raised the sum of £85 to go towards the total by holding an Easter egg hunt and raffle."

Despite the national average being 2.4%, some 2.7% of the GP-registered population (31,848 persons) of Lancashire are living with cancer, with four of the six Lancastrian CCGs recording a cancer prevalence rate that is significantly above the England average.
