Breaking: police storm Burnley siege house

A five-hour siege at a Burnley home ended dramtically at 9-30pm tonight. (Mon)

A section of Lowerhouse Lane had been cordoned off by police since around 4-30pm after reports of a domestic argument escalating and a man refusing to leave the property.

An eye witness at the scene told how armed police using a turntable ladder entered the terraced house by smashing an upstairs bedroom window. A man was then said to have run from the property, allegedly brandishing a hammer.

The eye witness believed a taser was used to bring the man to the ground and he was treated by paramedics before police removed him from the scene.

A woman, believed to be his wife, was removed from the house earlier in the evening.
