Amber Schofield shared her heartbreak last week at learning "the cost of Charlie's life," and asked followers of her Facebook page Charlie's Chapter, "how has a 3-year-old boy's life got a price?"

Charlie Procter, who lives in Accrington, was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer in January 2016 and has so far endured 19 gruelling rounds of chemotherapy.

His family, mum and dad Amber and Ben Procter and little sister Jessica, are now desperately fundraising to send Charlie to the US after learning that there are no more chemotherapy options for him in the UK.

His 22-year-old mum revealed how she initially broke down after she received the estimate of Charlie's treatment plan.

She said: "We got an email through from the Dr in Cincinnati. The financial team had looked at Charlie's treatment plan and the cost was £315,651.03.

"We broke down. I was heartbroken and lost at first and then I felt angry. It's just been a whirlwind of emotions."

In a Facebook post she appealed to her followers: "We had so much hope and it's disappeared within seconds. We can't, we won't give up on him. Please help us, a mother and father save our child, a sister to save her big brother, a 3-year- old boy to live.

"He's just a little boy who's suffered for 13 months. Just a little boy who has experienced pain like no other. Just a little boy fed up of life. Just a little boy who wants to be a little boy."

The post was shared along with a harrowing picture of little Charlie weeping in a field on a photo-shoot in Clitheroe.

His mother explained: "We wanted a photo of our family, all four of us. Charlie couldn't stand but said he wanted to try for one photo. But his body was too weak and it hurt him. He fell after the photo was taken. He was just too weak to stand."

The family have so far managed to raise £70,000 but are keen to keep up the momentum to ensure that they reach their target.

Amber said: "When everything started it was all big news and people did so much but we need to keep that up. People slow down and less and less gets donated each day. But we are incredibly grateful to everybody that has helped us, it's just been overwhelming."
