Kingfisher, owners of the B&Q chain has announced it is to close up to 60 stores in the next two years.

The chain includes the B&Q site at Brierfield, although that store is not among the six stores marked for closure so far.

Kingfisher has said for some time that B&Q UK and Ireland can adequately meet local customer needs from fewer stores and some of the stores should be smaller,” it said in a statement.

Kingfisher also announced a 15.2% fall in pre-tax profit to £644m for 2014.
