Boy (16) charged after Gannow smash horror - teenager still ‘critical’

The man was found with head and internal injuries after police were called to Gannow Lane at 5-50 a.m.

A stolen gold Land-Rover Discovery had been travelling at speed over Gannow Top roundabout when the driver lost control, flipping it on its roof. Sgt Dave Hogarth, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our investigation is continuing and I would like to thank those people that have so far come forward and continue to urge anybody that witnessed the collision or with information to contact us. I would also appeal directly to a white man, described as being Eastern European, who was seen at the scene at the time of the collision tending to the injured teenager. This man could be a key witness.”

Police said the witness is 5ft. 2in. tall and of medium build, with short black shaved hair. He was wearing a uniform and carrying a green rucksack or work bag. Anybody with information is urged to call police on 08451 25 35 45.

• A 16-year-old boy from Burnley has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and injury caused by accident, two counts of burglary in a dwelling and theft, driving a motor vehicle other than in accordance with a licence, failing to stop after a road accident and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance. He was to appear in court yesterday.
