Bottle attack on man in Nelson street - police appeal

A 27-year-old Pendle man suffered a gash to his forehead after a bizarre, unprovoked bottle attack on Friday evening.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident in Barkerhouse Road, Nelson.

The victim, from the Nelson area, was walking home near to Chapel Street when he dropped his mobile phone into the road. He was picking up the parts from the road when a car was unable to get past him because of what he was doing.

The driver of the car got out and struck him in the face. Det. Sgt Mick Cross, who is investigating the incident for CID, said: “He then produced a bottle and hit him over the forehead, breaking the glass. He suffered a gash to his forehead and cuts and bruises.”

Members of the public came to his aid before the emergency services arrived. He was then taken to hospital for treatment but was released after having stitches on his forehead.

DS Cross said: “We would like any witnesses to come forward. The man who assaulted him was an Asian male, around six feet tall and slim. He was in a silver car.

“It was an unprovoked attack on a man simply making his way home. We would ask anyone with information to contact us on 425001, or call Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 0800 555 111.”

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Friday.
