Police said an anonymous hand-delivered letter was taken to Barclays Bank in King Street, Whalley, on Thursday last week carrying the demands.

Officers discovered the note was a hoax and a Billington man, believed to be in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of blackmail.

He has since been released on police bail and is expected to return for questioning next month.
