PARISH COUNCIL – Briercliffe Parish Council will hold its September meeting at the Community Centre, in Jubilee Street, Harle Syke, today, at 7-30 p.m. The first 15 minutes are reserved for public questions.
WALKING DAY – The ecumenical walking day was a great success. All three local churches took part, starting at the Parish Church and ending at Hill Lane Baptist Church and taking in Haggate Baptists en route. To bring the well-attended event to a conclusion, after a service at Hill Lane Baptist Church, refreshments were served at the Church Hall in Lane Bottom.
BRIERCLFFE SOCIETY – The Briercliffe Society held its annual quiz night at the Community Centre. The event was organised by Mrs Barbara Holsgrove, who put together a very interesting and entertaining quiz. She was thanked by society chairman Coun. Roger Frost.
VEHICLE CAVALCADE – The annual vehicle cavalcade, part of Heritage Open Days, visited Harle Syke on Sunday. Over three dozen classic and vintage vehicles were expected but, due to the weather, only 20 turned up. The owners were presented with a Lancashire Museums Service "lucky bag" by Coun. Roger Frost.
The Mill Museum enjoyed a record day, busy from opening time to the end of the event. Sales in the caf were excellent.
HAGGATE BAPTISTS – Following the success of "Christianity Explained", Haggate Baptist Church is to start another course, "Discipleship Explored", on Thursday, October 7th. Two groups will meet on eight Thursdays, one at 12-30 pm the other at 7-30 pm. The church now has its own web site www.haggatebaptistchurch.org.uk.
BOBBY BALL – Haggate Church has organised "An Evening with Bobby Ball" of Cannon and Ball. The event will be held in the Church Hall on Friday, October 29th, at 7-30pm. Tickets are 5 and will be on sale soon.
MACMILLAN COFFEE – There is to be a Macmillan coffee morning on Saturday, October 2nd, from 10 a.m. to noon at St James Church Vestry, Church Street, Harle Syke.
COMMUNITY CENTRE – Briercliffe Community Centre, in Jubilee Street, Harle Syke, is available for children's parties for 20 for three hours (plus 5 for each extra hour). Bookings are available at weekends (Friday evenings to Sunday) and parties are only possible for children aged up to 11. Bookings can be made at Million Hairs, 116-118, Burnley Road, Harle Syke, or ring 01282 434393.
SOCIAL EVENING – The Briercliffe Society has organised an autumn social evening at the Community Centre at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 30th. The main attraction is to be the Cloggers folk group and there will be a beetle drive. Tickets at 5 each, including supper, are available from any committee member or Roger Frost on 435863.
