Blaze at Colne industrial unit causes major traffic delays

A SECOND spectacular blaze at the Primet Business Park in Colne caused major rush hour traffic problems throughout Colne this morning.

The A56 Burnley Road - the main road between Colne and Nelson - was closed between Greenfield Road and Whitewalls Drive and there were huge queues of traffic throughout the town.

Around 70 firefighters were invoved tackling the blaze. There were 12 fire engines from across East Lancashire, plus two aerial ladder platforms, a mobile fire station and a Salvation Army-backed mobile canteen.

The firefighters pumped vast amounts of water out of the nearby river to tackle the fire. They used five heavy jets of water to combat it.

The fire was in the section between Easistore4U and C &S Motors, but the actual location where the fire started has not yet been identified.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue was called to the scene just after 3-30 a.m. When they got there it didn’t look too spectacular - until they opened the door! C & S coaches were moved away from the scene.

The fire service hopes to reopen the road at midday.

There was a similar fire at Primet Business Park around two years ago. This time, homes did not have to be evacuated like they were then, but that also caused major traffic problems.
