The parents and family of Burnley teenager Luke Mason, knocked down near his home on Wednesday, are keeping a bedside vigil while he remains in a poorly condition.

Luke (13) remains in intensive care at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital following the accident in Lyndhurst Road which left him with serious head injuries.

His devastated parents Ben and Sarah are trying to stay strong according to his grandma Gail.

She said: “Luke is very poorly but we have just got to keep on hoping and praying. We are all supporting each other.”

The Blessed Trinity pupil was airlifted to hospital after he was involved in a collision with a car as he went to buy cereals from a local shop.

Blessed Trinity headteacher Richard Varey said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Luke and his family at this difficult time.”
