Baseball bat attack victim back home in Nelson

Social worker Mohsin Ilyas sustained a dislocated jaw and cracked cheekbone in the assault, which occurred while he was visiting his parents in Rawalpindi last month.

He also had 27 stitches inserted in facial wounds.

The assault is believed to have taken place following a family feud.

Mr Ilyas’s sister, Rehana, said he had discharged himself from hospital in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad and returned to this country at the end of last week.

She said: “He was getting nowhere in hospital there and so decided to come back here.

“He went into the Royal Blackburn Hospital at the weekend for some corrective surgery and is now much better and resting at home.

“We are all glad to have him back here. It does not look like any further action is being planned by the Pakistan authorities as they say he only suffered bruising.”

Mr Ilyas, a former Edge End High School pupil, works for Lancashire County Council.

A petition raised in his support was signed by more than 1,000 people last month.
