Barnoldswick teenager chalks up 15 A* GCSEs

A BARNOLDSWICK teenager is top of the class after chalking up an incredible 15 A* grades in her GCSEs.

Bethany Smith (16), a student at Skipton Girls’ High School, also achieved a B grade in AS-Level Maths, making her one of the country’s top achievers.

The teenager, who lives with her parents in Darnbrook Road, said she was expecting to do well in some subjects, but not so well in all of them.

She said: “It was a big shock. I am staying at Skipton to study A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology, French, Maths and Geography.

“I’d love to work with animals, or do conservation work in the future and might be applying to Oxbridge. There’s a lot to think about.”

Proud parents Helen and Steve were still on holiday when Bethany picked up her results.

Helen said: “She kept ringing back with more results and it got better and better. I couldn’t stop crying, I was absolutely gobsmacked.

“We knew she was bright and capable of doing well but we didn’t know just how well. She’s not one for showing off but her dad and I just want her to know what an absolute star she is.”
