Balloons released at funeral of tragic Burnley baby Abigail

Mourners released heart-shaped pink and yellow balloons bearing individual messages as a final tribute to tiny Abigail Marie Cook, who died on January 28th, aged just three-and-a-half-months.

Her funeral service took place at St Matthew’s Church and was led by the Rev. Mark Williams. As the small white coffin was brought into church, the air was filled with the sound of “Tears In Heaven,” by Eric Clapton.

Mourners sung the words to hymn “Lord Of The Dance” before the Rev. Williams read out a Bible reading from Matthew followed by a tribute to Abigail penned by her mother Danielle Lord.

“Your personality shone through in your precious little life,” it said.

“You were dainty and fragile and everything was long and slender.

“Your wardrobe was pink and full of pretty dresses. You were definitely my princess but you always were, and always will be, a daddy’s girl.

“You brought joy to so many people and you created so many memories in your short life for everyone.

“You will be forever in our hearts and in our thoughts and you will never be forgotten angel.”

After the readings the packed church was united in grief as “Precious Child” by Karen Taylor Good played out.

The final song of the service was Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.”

Friends and family then drove to Burnley Cemetery where they released a sea of helium-filled balloons into the clear blue sky and Abigail was laid to rest.

A host of brightly coloured floral tributes, including one from Danielle and her fiance Malcolm Cook, read “Princess.”

The couple, of Hillside Close, Burnley, also have a two-year-old son Benjamin.
