BAFTA delight for Dave Fishwick

Burnley businessman Dave Fishwick is not resting on his laurels after bagging a BAFTA for his latest TV show.

The minibus-mogul’s “Dave: Loan Ranger” picked up the Best Current Affairs Programme gong at the Scottish version of the awards on Sunday, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Panorama.

It was his second BAFTA after winning one for his “Fighting the Fat Cats” show last year and the Sabden entrepreneur told the Express he wanted to carry on making television that helped change people’s lives.

“It was a really exciting night,” he said. “I honestly didn’t think we were going to win. When you’re in a room with the likes of Panorama in a category for current affairs, you know you’re up against the big boys. I didn’t even have my jacket on when they were reading out the nominations. When they read our name out I was just stunned.

“It really has been a team effort. Some of the thoughts and ideas from David Henshaw concerning payday loans were really brilliant.”

David Tennant and Simon Pegg were just a couple of the celebrities at the event and Mr Fishwick said he had to keep pinching himself when looking around the room.

“I just find it incredible that a lad from Burnley who sells a few buses is in a room with these people,” he said.

And there could me more nights like it soon with Mr Fishwick busy working on his latest series.

“I’m working on a property series now, helping people get on the property ladder. I like making television that makes a difference to people’s lives.”
