An award-winning funding scheme is giving budding community groups in Burnley the chance to apply for a £500 donation.
A generous £81,000 is being distributed this year through Grassroots Giving, an initiative launched by Skipton Building Society in April 2013 to mark its 160th anniversary.
And in only three years, more than £160,500 has provided vital funds to small community groups across the country.
But the help does not stop there: each club that enters will receive support, guidance and a public profile.
Sewing the seeds for a kinder and more vibrant town, Burnley Tornadoes American Football Team (pictured above), Burnley and Pendle Families in Recovery and Friends of Jackhouse Nature Reserve, were all named as winners last year.
Liz Needleman, of Business in the Community, an organisation working with the society, said: “Grassroots Giving is a great opportunity for community groups; it really embodies the idea of community activity in action, and showcases just how much Skipton Building Society has embraced the idea of businesses acting responsibly within the community. Their campaign is a great illustration of how far a business’ contribution and support can really provide a lasting impact on grassroots organisations at the heart of many neighbourhoods”.
