Are you up to Kenank’s gut-busting food challenge?

Burger lovers are in for treat at Burnley’s Kenank’s at the minute – but only if they’ve got the stomach for it.

The Barracks Road restaurant is serving up a “Man vs Food” style challenge where competitors are faced with a plate weighing in at a gut-busting 70oz.

Owner David Hankinson, who opened the restaurant in October, said: “We gave the place a sort of ‘Man vs Food’ theme when we started out and straight away everybody was coming up to me asking when we would be doing challenges. We wanted to spend a bit of time getting it right and so here we are.”

In order to complete the “Mad Cow Burger Challenge”, all competitors have to do is finish off two 12oz. burgers, 16oz. fries. 12oz pulled pork, five onion rings, 4oz. cheese, 4oz. beef chilli and 4oz. bacon in 30 minutes.

If they don’t fancy that then they can try the “Devil Wings Challenge” where they have six minutes to finish off six wings, made with ghost chilli.

“Fight Nights” take place every Thursday with those who complete the challenge getting a place in the Kenank’s Hall of Fame and a chance to win a cash prize.

“Everybody who takes part also gets a bumper sticker”, said David. “Nobody has completed the ‘Mad Cow’ challenge yet but somebody has done the Devil one. What we’re doing is compiling a leader board with the times it takes to complete them so when we finish the competition, probably in November, we’ll know who the overall champions are.”

Kenank’s started out life as a takeaway, run out of David’s family’s chippy in Rosegrove. Come the middle of February, it will be celebrating its two-year anniversary and David cannot believe how far it has come.

“Having a restaurant was always the goal but I never expected it to happen this quickly. It’s going really well. We’re open for breakfasts now as well meaning we’re open from 9am all day every day. Last week was the busiest week we’ve had yet so hopefully that is going to continue.”

• The Burnley Express’ s Chris Boden and Kelvin Stuttard were two of the latest competitors to take on the “Mad Cow Burger Challenge”. Kelvin came out victorious, managing to wolf down 28.2oz of the meal (under half of the full amount) while Chris managed 20oz.
