Applause in memory offormer cricketclub skipper

A minute's applause will be held at the Worsley Cup Final this Sunday in memory of former Burnley Cricket Club captain, Roland Harrison, who died at the age of 73 on Wednesday.

Roland scored more Lancashire League runs than any other Burnley player, with 10,606 over 498 innings in the league and 1,120 innings in the Worsley Cup, scoring two centuries and 59 half-centuries.

Known as an astute captain with a keen cricketing mind, Roland played over 500 games for Burnley CC, captaining the side in over 350 of those matches as he led the club to the Lancashire League title in 1970, 1978 and 1979 on top of Worsley Cup Final wins in 1975 and 1984.

As well as representing the Lancashire Seconds with aplomb, Roland went on to break the club record for most runs in a season in 1975 – a record which stood for 20 years, having taken over from Derek Riley as skipper in 1968.
