Animal welfare bosses are appealing for witnesses after a guinea pig was left for dead in Hapton.

RSPCA inspectors believe the white and brown guinea pig was alive when it was left in a cardboard box with food and a blue and white towel at a picnic site in Mill Hill Lane.

The gruesome discovery was made on Thursday morning and Insp. Newman is asking for anybody with any information to come forward.

“The guinea pig was very underweight and it had suffered hair loss to both its sides. It also had red sores to the bottom of its feet.

“We would like to speak to the person who left it there or anybody who has any information on it. The blue and white towel in the box was very distinctive with the words ‘chill out’ written all over it.”

Anybody with any information can contact the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.
